It has been said that great things come from small beginnings. Here at Fenway Health, our small beginning was in a humble basement clinic, dreamed up by neighborhood activists and staffed by volunteer nursing students. The folks who founded Fenway Health in 1971 had a belief: that health care is a right, not a privilege. As we celebrate 50 years of Fenway Health this year, this is the perfect time to take a look back at some Fenway Health history.
In the latest episode of Fenway Health’s Pride in Our Health podcast, we chat with Tom Martorelli. Tom served as Chair of the Fenway Board of Directors during the late 1970s. During this episode, we’ll hear stories from Tom’s experiences during the early days of Fenway Health and the community health center movement.
Tom has been documenting Fenway Health history since 2012, when he published the book For People, Not for Profit: A History of Fenway Health’s First Forty Years.
